The Scottsman ran an article yesterday about The Macallan Amber.
The article tells us about the success of Amber and how Purists reject it.

“However, the trial has provoked controversy among some purists. One expert last night said it was “madness” to tamper with a flagship like Macallan.” Writes Fergus Sheppard in The Scottsman

Amber is a new Whisky liqueur currently is being test marketed across Washington, Denver and Seattle after small-scale trials in Boston.

WHY does someone become a so called “Purist” and reject change?

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A purist is one who desires that a particular item remain true to its essence and free from adulterating or diluting influences. The term may be used in almost any field, and can be applied either to the self or to others. Use of the term may be either pejorative or complimentary, depending on context. Because the appellation depends on subjective notions of what is “pure” as opposed to “adulterating” as applied to any particular item, conflict can arise both as to whether a person so labeled is actually a purist and as to whether that is desirable.

What are they afraid of?
Through out my life I have been doing many different kind of sports and hobbies.
Everywhere you meet these Purists. They tell you what you can and cannot do. It’s okay to change a little bit as long as you follow the rules…set up by the purists.
To a purist, the thought of a change in life is so intimidating that even though something fantastic might be around the corner they end up settling for less simply because they are afraid of change.
One thing you can be sure of though is that sooner or later there will come a change, and then those Purists will have to change themselves or be left behind. Strangely they usually adapt and it doesn’t take long before they tell us all how to behave, with the change included of course…

I found a short checklist about fear of change. To me, this is the definition of a Purist. If you are one, be sure to carry this one in your pocket and you won’t have to worry about a thing, or will you?

1. If I change I will encounter new situations I am not prepared for that will make feel uncomfortable, anxious, or inadequate.

2. If I change then I will be allowing myself to become exploited.

3. The fear of change helps protect my rights as an individual.

4. Change is only uncomfortable.

5. Change means I’m being passive.

6. The unknown is fraught with uncertainty and where I am now is certain and more comfortable.

7. Change requires effort and is inherently painful.

Doesn’t being afraid of change seem awfully boring? In other words, doesn’t beeing a Purist seem very boring?
The worst part about being a Purist is that you can end up settling for whatever happens. It seems less scary that way. The truth is that this is a far more frightening way to live because you don’t have the feeling of being in control of what happens to you and you live in fear of what might happen. Having the confidence to take action in the face of fear not only provides you with a sense of control, ultimately it will also provide you with a life full of purpose and joy. And isn’t that really what we’re all trying to achieve?

Let’s finish of this post with a poem. To all you Purists out there!

The greatest adventure is what lies ahead
Today and tomorrow are yet to be said
The chances, the changes, are all yours to make
The mold of your life is in your hands to break.
The greatest adventure is there if you’re bold.
Let go of the moment that life makes you hold.
To measure the meaning can you make delay
It’s time you stopped thinking and wasting the day.
A man who’s a dreamer and never takes leave
Who thinks of a world that’s just make-believe
Will never know passion, will never know pain
Who sits by the window will one day see rain.
