A distillery in Grimstad on Norway’s south coast plans to start producing whisky this year, with the first bottles ready for sale around 2010.
KG Puntervold of Grimstad, also known as Agder Brenneri, plans initial production of around 2,500 bottles. “Since whisky has to lie at least three years in the barrel, it won’t be ready until 2010 at the earliest,” Ole Puntervold, director of the distillery, told newspaper Aftenposten.
He said his firm will use American bourbon barrels, which will be delivered in May. He plans to produce half-bottles with an alcohol volume of just over 40 percent.
Puntervold stressed the whisky production will be a trial run, to learn and see what’s possible to develop.
