Yet another “Whisky / Heritage / Distillery / Email / Design” Whisky brand site

On one of my regular “surfing for news” trips I ran into a new site from Balblair. At least I cannot remember seeing it before.

The new site is made with flash technology and features the same structure as every whisky-site on the planet. Apart from some small cool features such as a “Dawn till Dusk” slider that let’s you control the day and night of the site , it is quite depressing to see yet another site that has Whisky / Heritage / Distillery / Email / Design as it’s main menu.
The new Balblair site doesn’t take advantage of the features that Flash technology provides. No video, no interactive functions that lets you see high res versions of products and other images. On top of that they have compressed the product shoots to hard which actually makes the product look bad.

On the positive side however is the fact that they are actually trying. Whisky-brands all over the world probably has the worst internet presence of all global consumer brands. If they invested only one quarter as much as they do on packaging they would have a brilliant presence.

Whisky as a product has so much possibilities. Whisky-brands! Get a grip on it! Visit thefwa.com and moluv.com for inspiration. Then write us an email and we’ll put you in touch with some of the best digital advertising agencies out there.

Last but not least, don’t let this article make you think we do not like Balblair Whisky. That we do!
