Adding to its reputation as the signature bourbon of thoroughbred racing, Woodford Reserve, an award-winning small-batch bourbon, is honoring the country’s favorite horse race with the release of its 2007 Kentucky Derby® bottle (set to release April 2007). A product from the historic Woodford Reserve Distillery in Versailles, Kentucky, this year’s limited edition Derby bottle was designed by Cincinnati-based artist Pam Folsom. The bottle imagery features all things Derby, capturing the excitement generated by the greatest two minutes in sports — the historic Twin Spires and Grandstand at Churchill Downs®, race fans dressed in Derby attire, Thoroughbred horses, and jockeys.
“We’re proud to have created this special bottle that celebrates everything Derby. Woodford Reserve’s premium bourbon shares a long-standing history with horseracing and, of course, the ‘Greatest Two Minutes in Sports,’†said Nick Nelson, Woodford Reserve brand manager. “What better way to partner the tradition of fine Kentucky bourbon with the tradition of the Kentucky Derby® and everything that it encompasses.â€
The main image on the bottle is bold and colorful, featuring two chestnut Thoroughbred horses, jockeys mounted, ready for the big race. Meanwhile a couple, outfitted in their Derby hats and festive attire, look on. A silhouette of Churchill Downs’ Twin Spires and Grandstand reflect through the bottle, providing the finishing touch for a race day background. Other bottle decoration includes a brown textured-looking neck band and attached tag bearing information about the product and the artist.
“Color is my inspiration,†says bottle artist Folsom. “Using strokes created by brush or knife to lay down thick and thin paint, this technique creates brilliant, vibrant colors that mix at the edges.â€
The commemorative liter-size bottle will be available at the suggested retail price range of
$41.99 – $44.99 throughout Kentucky and selected markets across the nation.
Woodford Reserve Bourbon is the “Official Bourbon of Kentucky Derby 133†and has served as the official bourbon for the past nine years. It also sponsors a Grade I race, the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic, which is run on Derby Day, May 5, and has become one of Thoroughbred racing’s premier events in its own right.
