BBC reports today that drink maker Bacardi will invest more than £120m in Scotland to increase production of its Dewar’s Scotch whisky brand.
The firm is trying to capitalise on emerging markets – especially in Asia and Latin America.
“Demand for Dewar’s premium whiskies has grown significantly, especially in Asia and other emerging markets where the brands were launched only in the past three years,” said Bacardi’s chief executive Andreas Gembler.
“This substantial plan demonstrates our clear commitment to Scotland, known around the world for its quality whisky, and to our Dewar’s brands, favourites among consumers.”
Bacardi bought the Dewar’s brand in 1998 and employs 300 people at seven locations throughout Scotland.
It has nothing to do with Whisky. But as a Swede I would just like to pay tribute to Ingmar Bergman, one of the worlds greatest directors.
Ingmar died quietly today in his home on the small island Fårö, Sweden. Bergman was 89 years old.
Among the many people that talked of his greatness was Woody Allen.
He said in a 70th birthday tribute in 1988: “probably the greatest film artist, all things considered, since the invention of the motion picture camera,”
DEWAR’S World of Whisky will once again host its annual mini version of the world famous Edinburgh Tattoo on Sunday 12th August 2007.
The Edinburgh Military Tattoo plays to hundreds of thousands of people every year during August, but thanks to DEWAR’S sponsorship of the event, Aberfeldy has its own slice of the action in the form of the DEWAR’S Mini Tattoo.
Last year’s event included bands from New Zealand and Chile, a children’s choir from Uganda, a Kung Fu troupe from China, Highland dancers from South Africa and, of course, the massed pipes and drums of Scottish regiments.
This year will see another fantastic mix of international and homegrown acts grace the grounds of Aberfeldy Distillery. With support performers, amusements for all the family, free workshops after the main performance and complimentary entrance to Dewar’s World of Whisky, the Dewar’s Mini Tattoo is a great day out.
Tickets are available by calling the hotline on 01796 484624, by visiting www.pitlochry.org.uk/minitattoo, or in person at Aberfeldy Tourist Information Centre or Dewar’s World of Whisky at Aberfeldy Distillery.
John Black, Tullibardine’s distillery manager has made up his mind for the 3rd selection.
Tullibardine distillery was purchased on the 17th June 2003 by a group of four individuals with a passion for business and whisky. Shortly after purchasing the distillery John Black joined the company as the distillery manager. John has literally spent his whole life at distilleries having been born at Cardhu distillery in Speyside and spent the rest of his working life running and managing distilleries.
John has selected a very special cask for his 3rd selection it is an ex sherry barrel which was again bottled at cask strength, this time 57.7% and there are only 259 bottles available. This year John celebrates his 65th birthday and his 50th year in the whisky industry so he wanted to give Tullibardines fans something different.
Tasting notes from Tullibardine:
Nose: walnuts and almonds are in evidence at the start with a big helping of and all-spice. Upon opening up fully lots of honey and barley sugar aromas come to the fore. Enticing!
Taste: rich and mellow. Stewed soft fruits combine with strong grape like flavours. The pronounced sherry character develops and this marries well with the creamy vanilla element. On the finish there are distinctive crème caramel and butterscotch flavours.
A unique expression from a very unusual and unique cask. The combination of the american bourbon oak with the ex sherry matured element, make for an amazing series of flavours. Good length with well balanced acidity. Mellow tannins make this a pleasure to drink!
If you want to get your hands on a bottle, it’s available through Tullibardine’s online shop or their visitor centre shop at the distillery, in Blackford.
If you can’t brag about your 200+ yrs old heritage you can at least do good advertising. Check out this hysterical TVC for a Thai whisky called The Black Cat.
