John Black, Tullibardine’s distillery manager has made up his mind for the 3rd selection.

Tullibardine distillery was purchased on the 17th June 2003 by a group of four individuals with a passion for business and whisky. Shortly after purchasing the distillery John Black joined the company as the distillery manager. John has literally spent his whole life at distilleries having been born at Cardhu distillery in Speyside and spent the rest of his working life running and managing distilleries.

John has selected a very special cask for his 3rd selection it is an ex sherry barrel which was again bottled at cask strength, this time 57.7% and there are only 259 bottles available. This year John celebrates his 65th birthday and his 50th year in the whisky industry so he wanted to give Tullibardines fans something different.

Tasting notes from Tullibardine:

Nose: walnuts and almonds are in evidence at the start with a big helping of and all-spice. Upon opening up fully lots of honey and barley sugar aromas come to the fore. Enticing!
Taste: rich and mellow. Stewed soft fruits combine with strong grape like flavours. The pronounced sherry character develops and this marries well with the creamy vanilla element. On the finish there are distinctive crème caramel and butterscotch flavours.

A unique expression from a very unusual and unique cask. The combination of the american bourbon oak with the ex sherry matured element, make for an amazing series of flavours. Good length with well balanced acidity. Mellow tannins make this a pleasure to drink!

If you want to get your hands on a bottle, it’s available through Tullibardine’s online shop or their visitor centre shop at the distillery, in Blackford.
