A Rare 1969 Glenlivet comes out of the cellars

The Glenlivet Single Malt Scotch Whisky is announcing this year’s Cellar Collection Release - The Glenlivet Cellar Collection 1969, valued at $750 a bottle. The Cellar Collection releases showcase the most extraordinary expressions from The Glenlivet Distillery; only one new vintage is added to the collection each year.

“1969 marked a significant year in countless ways,” notes Andrew Nash, Brand Director for The Glenlivet, Pernod Ricard USA. “The year was marked with achievements in music, film, television and science. Neil Armstrong took man’s first steps on the moon; the Boeing 747 plane took to the air for its very first test flight; The Beatles performed their last live performance, and the Woodstock Festival made concert history. It is only appropriate that we release a vintage that can stand up to the significant achievements of this memorable year.”

In 1969, just ten select casks from The Glenlivet Distillery were filled with newly distilled spirit and set aside to mature. After 37 years, The Cellar Collection 1969 matured into a unique whisky that is truly representative of a unique year. It boasts a deep gold color, intricate layers of flavors, and a subtle balance of spices, fruit and hazelnut. Bottled at natural cask strength and without the use of chill-filtration, The Cellar Collection 1969 possesses all the qualities of the definitive Speyside single malt whisky.

Jim Cryle, Master Distiller of The Glenlivet, is the man responsible for identifying and hand-selecting those casks which most exhibit the classic, rich and elegant characteristics required for The Cellar Collection. Following selection, these special casks were placed in the Cellar Collection warehouse, where the cool, damp environment has aged and yielded whisky of superior quality for more than a century.

“To say that 1969 was an eventful year would be an understatement,” says Jim Cryle, Master Distiller of The Glenlivet. “In this momentous year, we placed spirit from The Glenlivet Distillery into these casks, and after nearly 40 years of gradual maturation, it is finally ready to see the light of day.”

The Glenlivet Cellar Collection 1969 will be released nationally in September 2007 with just 800 bottles available in The United States. Each bottle is individually numbered and comes packaged in a solid ash frame adorned with leather and brass.
