If you’re turning up at the Whisky Fringe in Edinburgh you’ll have the oppurtunity to get your hands on some Mackmyra Preludium 05.

Preludium 05 is the fifth edition from Mackmyra in Sweden. It’s a limited edition, still young from their first distillings (2002). Every bottle is numbered by hand and signed.

The base flavour comprises Swedish elegant malt whisky that is finished in small, hand-made casks. The colour is reminiscent of pale amber with red highlights. The nose has a toasted character with notes of vanilla, dried fruit and honey. Wisps of delicate smoke hover in the background. The palate is spicy, with an intense vanilla sweetness from the charred casks. Hints of oak and fiery spices linger in the finish.

For optimal flavour, the ABV is reduced to just over 48% with water from the destilley, water that is naturally filtered through the Valbo ridge. The whisky is non chill-filtered and contains no added colours.

This year’s dates for the Whisky Fringe are Saturday 18h and Sunday 19th August, scheduled to take place during the Edinburgh Festival & Fringe. Ticket prices are at £15 per head (this includes a £5 shop voucher) or £25 for a two day ticket (with £10 voucher).
