My friends over at T.W.A.S. reports on a new Australian distillery.

From the Central Highlands of Tasmania, Australia enters a new player on the world whisky stage with The Nant Distillery, which officially opens on 1 December 2007.
Nant will launch two initial styles of whisky, peated and unpeated and both will be double distilled. Matured in 100 liter barrels the whisky will mature over a minimum of four years in oak barrels that have previously held sherry. They will be knocked down and remade into 100 liter barrels and toasted. Toasting ( charring) can have a significant beneficial affect on the whisky flavour. All barrels will be stored on the Estate in ATO approved bond stores.

A new website has been launched to co-incide with an invitation to become a foundation member of the Nant Distillery. Potential buyers may purchase a barrel of Nant Single Malt for a limited time to become Foundation Member of The Nant Distillery and herald in this new era. Only 150 Foundation memberships are available. The website details the application process for barrel purchase, as well as the uniqueness of the opportunity to buy such a boutique commodity.
Visit the Nant Distilleries website for more information.
