Many of you might have heard about Mackmyra, a Swedish single malt distillery. Soon Sweden will have two single malt distilleries in operation. Box Distillery starts it’s production in the near future and you can be one of the shareholders.

Box Destilleri AB will start production of Swedish malt whisky in accordance with traditional Scottish methods. The old power plant building will house a complete distilling facility with a traditional copper mash tun capable of producing 90,000 liters of pure alcohol a year.

Box Power Plant was built in 1912 and provided electricity for Sandslån timber-sorting facility. The beautiful old buildings are in a scenic setting on the Ångermanälven River, and feature the industrial architecture of the period. The river is a renowned attraction and the landscape has wild beauty.

The name Box comes from the sawmill here where box-boards were manufactured for export to the English market at the end of the 19th century. Box stands in an area with an exciting industrial history, a prosperous industrial landscape of entrepreneurs, prosperity and conflicts.

Sweden’s industrialization was at its most dramatic in Ådalen and is a success story, a chapter in modern history filled with interest and surprises. ?Box Distillery will mark the start of a cooperation project with local partners to pass on historical processes and insights that strengthen the brand and encourage continued research.
