Ian Macleod Distillers has re-packaged and re-positioned Langs Supreme for its re-launch.

new-langssupreme_bottlewithbox.jpg The new bottle design, developed by the award winning Graphic Partners Ltd, updates the current traditional Langs Supreme packaging, to create a far more premium design, in keeping with the award winning quality of the blend inside.
The Langs name is a traditional, independent, long established brand, with the additional benefit of being granted a Royal Warrant by Her Majesty the Queen Mother in 1984.

The Langs blend has a high malt content in comparison to many of its competitors, with the renowned Glengoyne Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky at its heart, a sign of its quality, along with a number of other top ranking malts.

benriach_sauternes_finish.jpg

The BenRiach distillery are adding a number of new expressions to their whisky range. The first one to see the light is the BenRiach 16 years old Sauternes Finish.

Matured in the traditional style in American bourbon barrels, this Single Malt whisky is then finished in Chateau D’Yquem Premier Cru Superior Sauternes wine barrels (sourced from the Bordeaux region of France), for a period of approximately 2 1/2 years.

According to BenRiach, the Chateau D’Yquem Sauternes casks are extremely hard to come by, and this release represents the rarest of all their wood finishes, with just 281 six-packs bottled for worldwide distribution. During this 2nd period of maturation the whisky derives a number of additional flavours and aromas specific to the Sauternes barrels.

Tasting notes from BenRiach

Nose: Sultanas, figs, butterscotch.
Colour: Rich gold.
Taste: Rich sweet Sauternes notes married with tropical fruits, melons, toffee, sultanas and butterscotch.

Stay tune for more info about the BenRiach Maderensis Fumosus and the BenRiach Limited Release Batch 5

Who?

I think many of you might wonder, who the hell is Matt Mullenweg. Well, he’s actually the reason why this blog exists. In a far far way that is. Matt is the founding developer of Wordpress, the technical platform loved by thousands of bloggers around the world – me included.

So, when I noted that Matt was featured in the Single Malt Scotch Episode on Wine Library TV together with Gary Vaynerchuk it was a ‘must-post’

Thanks Matt for your commitment in Wordpress!

Street Insider reported today that Clontarf Irish Whiskey has launched a new website as part of its brand-building

Earlier this year, Clontarf unveiled a new package and launched its “New Irish” marketing campaign. The “New Irish” is all about putting a new spin on an old standby.

The lighthearted website, www.clontarfwhiskey.com, pokes good-natured fun at the things typical whiskey sites take very seriously – history, the distilling process, tasting notes – basically the category itself. Each section of Clontarf’s new site is presented with a whimsical wit. You can rewrite the history of the Battle of Clontarf or take a whiskey personality test to determine the perfect Clontarf cocktail for you–even the cocktail recipes are written with the “New Irish” in mind. Many of the options on the site are interactive and viral–you can share them with your friends

The site launches with the “New Irish Xposed” Photography Contest. Participants are invited to send in their photographic vision of what the “New Irish” means to them. Whether it is a fresh take on Irish Eyes or on the Celtic Tiger, the innovative contest is sure to spark creative submissions as clever as Clontarf’s own campaign. All accepted entries will be posted to the Clontarf website. The grand prize is $5,000 and the winning photograph will be included in Clontarf’s marketing campaign. Entries must be submitted by October 31, 2008.

“The Clontarf website is clever and irreverent. We looked at our target demographic and decided to take an unexpected direction for an Irish whiskey. We took some cues from the vodka and beer categories, put an Irish twist on it and let loose,” said Roseann Sessa, vice president marketing and public relations.

I stopped by Ardbegs website today and I noted that I’ve missed the news that another piece of ‘gunpowder’ whisky has come our way. But, better late than never.

The latest Ardbeg single malt whisky is called Corryvreckan – named after the fierce whirlpool to the north of Islay, and the Viking prince who braved the perilous tumult for the love for an Islay princess. If you wanna get your hands on the Corryvreckan you better act fast as it’s a limited 5000 bottles release and right now they’ve stopped taking orders. But I think you might have a chance if you keep your eyes open for that ‘add to basket’ button.

The launch is supported by a campaign site that contains a series of animated short movies that tell the story about Corryvreckan. I’m happy to share the movies with you here on WhiskyGrotto.com

The people over at Ardbeg reports that the Corryvreckan is a heady, intense and powerful dram. It encounter torrents of tarry ropes, creosote and linseed oil. It’s also said to deliver dangerous depths with the force of menthol, treacle and chilli sauce. All of this in a 57,1% strong delivery.

The suggested retail price is: £45

Soon you’ll be able to order on their site.
