Spot the parachute-jumping whisky barrel on Islay

August 10, 2008

in Charity, Whisky Fun, WhiskyBuzz

Local charities on Argyll’s Isle of Islay are going to drop a whisky barrel on a parachute from a plane. Choose the position where the barrel will end up on our chart and YOU COULD WIN up to £250,000 cash!

Spot the Whisky Barrel is a unique fund raising competition from the Scottish whisky Island of Islay.

The rules are simple. Visit the ‘Spot the Barrel website’ and for £25 a ticket, you get to guess exactly where the whisky barrell will finish up after it’s dropped from an aircraft at 5000ft. This will generate an entry form with the Ordnance Survey coordinates of your chosen position.

The drop will take place on Thursday 14th of August. The barrell will drift for five minutes. If you guessed where the pick up is, you’re the lucky winner.

PRIZES
1st The entry closest to the barrel wins first prize.
Value Up to £250,000

2nd The next 10 closest win one week’s accommodation at the new Islay Hotel at Islay’s Whisky Festival – for 5 years. Value £6000

3rd The next 20 closest win a hogshead of whisky.
Value £4000 each

4th The next 250 closest win a special box of 9 bottles of Islay & Jura malt whisky.
Value £1000 each

Follow this link to try your luck. I’ve already submitted my position ;)

Thanks Argyll News for the tip.

Great entry about the competition! I’ve got some tickets as well, but will get more.

Like the picture, did you create that?

Thank you :)

Yep, thought it was a nice image to go with the post. Ironic enough ;)

Are they still going on with that thing. First I heard about it was in November, and then you had to submit your guess by 31st March 2008.

Seems like they didn’t get enough entries on the first go.

it seems so..but then all whisky lovers should keep on submitting

(I guess ;)

Unfortunately the drop has been cancelled by Roland as too few entries were received to make it worthwhile.

Disappointing, but I guess we’ll have to accept his decision.
