Local charities on Argyll’s Isle of Islay are going to drop a whisky barrel on a parachute from a plane. Choose the position where the barrel will end up on our chart and YOU COULD WIN up to £250,000 cash!
Spot the Whisky Barrel is a unique fund raising competition from the Scottish whisky Island of Islay.
The rules are simple. Visit the ‘Spot the Barrel website’ and for £25 a ticket, you get to guess exactly where the whisky barrell will finish up after it’s dropped from an aircraft at 5000ft. This will generate an entry form with the Ordnance Survey coordinates of your chosen position.
The drop will take place on Thursday 14th of August. The barrell will drift for five minutes. If you guessed where the pick up is, you’re the lucky winner. [click to continue…]

You might have noticed our black & yellow banner here to the right. It’s the symbol for the War on Whisky fakers led by sergeant Serge over at Whiskyfun.com.

Serge says “Yes, wasn’t it about time we did something new against these forgers who sell fake or refilled bottles on eBay or elsewhere? I’ve been caught myself (at least four bottles I think within one year) and that really hit a nerve! That’s why I decided to expose all forgeries (or even possible forgeries) on Whiskyfun’s main page and to simultaneously archive them on this central page.”
And I just wanted to make sure you all noticed as well. It’s a DRAM good cause!
Head over to the War of Whisky Fakers page on Whiskyfun.com and show your support!

TWO political heavyweights are hoping to give a dramatic boost to fund-raising for Warwick Hospital’s new cancer unit.
As part of the push to raise £300,000 towards the £1.2m development at the Lakin Road hospital, an auction organised by MP James Plaskitt is offering two bottles of whisky signed by Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.
Both the outgoing Prime Minister and his successor have put their names to the House of Commons bottles, which will now be sold to the highest bidder on the Warwick and Leamington MP’s website. The starting bid for the two bottles is £40 each (plus £7.99 special delivery charge)
Mr Plaskitt was grateful for the donations to a cause close to his heart. “I am grateful to the Prime Minister and Chancellor for helping get this off to a great start – and I am really appreciative of those local businesses who have already pledged items to the auction.”
