I am glad to report that The Macallan has taken a step into the future of communication with their latest scotch whisky tasting. One of my favorite idea and design blogs – The NotCot reports on The Macallan’s latest whisky tasting and how they used Twitter to get the mouth water pouring.

It’s a great Idea even though I do think it’s a little bit early as the number of whisky fans on Twitter is probably limited. From a PR perspective though it’s great – look at me, I just had to write about it.

BenRiach Distillery Company Ltd, one of the country’s leading independents, has made its first acquisition with the purchase of the Glendronach Distillery from Chivas Brothers, the Scotch whisky business of Pernod Ricard.
The acquisition of the Highland malt distillery, one of Scotland’s oldest, for an undisclosed sum, will complement the award-winning BenRiach brand as a superb high-end quality product.
The new owners said they intended to re-package and re-launch Glendronach, which they described as “a sleeping giant”, in markets worldwide.

The Highland whisky distillery Tullibardine has unveiled a range of personalised whisky bottles.
This new range includes a personalised whisky bottle containing the 1993 single malt whisky and a personalised cask of Tullibardine single malt whisky, the independently-owned company said late last week according to Just Drinks
The limited edition cask is available in either a Sherry or Bourbon barrel. The whisky is stored at the distillery for ten years to mature at which point the contents will be bottled and personalised.
The personalised bottle costs GBP29.50 (US$58.04) and cask prices start at GBP1,000 each.

This latest release from Tomatin let’s us know how the 2009 range will be dressed when introduced early next year.
Tomatin follows the trend lead by Auchentoshan, Glenmorangie, Highland Park and others, with more sophisticated and simplistic design and classic typography as the new bottles will be dressed in white, black, silver and red. Personally I’d like to see more of the creative and more fun bottlings like many that has conquered the wine industry the last couple of years. Fat Bastard from Theirry & Guy being a perfect example.
